Contract 4 to 6 days per month (28 to 42 hours per month)

The Ginew Wellness Center is a growing organization working to enhance the mental well being of individuals, couples, and families in our community of Roseau River Anishinabe First Nation. We are looking for a fun, dynamic clinician who values working collaboratively and helping improve the health and wellness of our community.

The Mental Health Clinician works with clients to promote optimum mental and emotional health. The clinician provides individuals, groups and families with counseling / therapy for a wide range of psychological and / or emotional challenges such as mental disorders, abuse, substance misuse, trauma, residential school and 60’s scoop trauma, and family situations. The incumbent uses evaluation techniques to develop and implement therapeutic treatment plans in a community health setting. The Clinician works alongside other internal and external mental health and medical professionals such as physicians, Nurse Practitioners, and specialists to develop treatment plans for clients and their families. The Mental Health Clinician provides urgent outreach, responsive assessment and treatment, case management, GP shared care, education, and support to individuals experiencing acute and/or chronic mental illness and/or problem substance use. Treatment specialties may also include: couples trauma, EMDR, family, children, etc.

Primary Responsibilities: of the MH Clinician, but are not limited to:
• Respond to calls in the community as directed, including crisis intervention collaboration with team members;
• Mental health and risk assessments, mental status exams, safety plans, and follow-up plans while engaging clients' families in the resolution process, whenever possible;
• Refer client(s) and caregiver(s) to suitable resources and advocate on their behalf if required;
• Work in consultation with other GWC staff and external agencies, to ensure continuity of care;
• Provide support to other team members and act in a collaborative capacity;
• Keeping confidential, brief, and accurate client records within our electronic health/medical records system;
• Participating in regular staff meeting and regular team case consultation;
• Any other duties as required

• Minimum of four (4) years’ work experience in a supervised clinical setting
• Master's Degree in Psychology, Registered Psychiatric Nurse, or related field, from an accredited college or university required
• Valid driver’s license and access to reliable vehicle
• Strong psychosocial assessment skills
• Excellent time management and prioritizing skills
• Excellent communication skills when interacting with professionals or clients
• Writing skills for reports, correspondence as required
• Effective presentation skills and ability to respond to questions from groups of managers, clients and the general public
• High level of sound and independent judgment, reasoning, and discretion
• Satisfactory Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search, a clear Child Abuse Registry check with acceptable Prior Contact checks and a clear Adult Abuse Registry check, all done within the last 3 months
• ASIST Certificate (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training)
• NVCI Certificate (Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Training)
• Knowledge of Indigenous customs, traditions, and beliefs will be considered an asset
