Substitute Educational Assistant work is based on the "as & when" basis and, depending on need, could vary from a one day substitute to several weeks. The Western School Division has developed and utilizes a centralized substitute booking system coordinated by our Substitute Booking Clerk, based upon your availability and preferences. Whether you are a university student, homestay parent, or individual seeking a flexible schedule, this position could fit your routine. What you will do -
Functioning under the supervision of a classroom teacher and/or resource teacher, the successful candidate will be responsible for supporting teachers and clinicians' work by providing instructional support to students where they substitute. S/he will be responsible for assisting students with work, including but not limited to: assistance in occupational therapy, physical therapy, dressing, eating, toileting, transferring and transportation, supervision over recess time, conducting research, working with computers, listening and responding to students as they work, reinforcing strategies introduced by the teacher(s), as well as providing feedback to the supervisory teacher(s).
A condition of employment with the Western School Division is a satisfactory Criminal Record Check, Vulnerable Sector Search, Child Abuse Registry Check, and an agreement by the applicant to disclose criminal record and/or Abuse Registry record information to the Division. The successful candidate will be responsible for any service charges incurred. Persons must present this information prior to their first day of work.
The successful candidate will also be required to travel throughout the region. Therefore, a condition of employment is that the incumbent must possess and maintain a valid full Manitoba Class 5F driver's license, and an all-purpose insured vehicle with appropriate liability insurance. An equivalent method of transportation to meet the travel requirements will be considered.
